Be a Commencement Volunteer!

Join the volunteer team to assist with this semester’s ceremony, and help make this achievement wonderful and memorable for our new alumni. We have a number of ways you can pitch in:

  • General Volunteer: Available to help where needed, when it’s needed during the ceremony.
  • Field Movement Management: Guides students to and from their seats and the stage during the ceremony. This volunteer shift is about two and a half hours long.
  • Interior and Exterior Guest Services: Provide exceptional customer service to guests, including guiding them to their seats.
  • Graduate Entrance Directional Assistance: Help manage graduate line traffic, ensuring each graduate is wearing the correct regalia and has their GradPass.
  • Graduate Seating Assistance: Assist students in finding their seats, and make sure they are seated when the ceremony begins.
  • Seating Assistance: Guide guests requiring accessible accommodations to their seats in the appropriate assigned sections.
  • Volunteer Room Assistance: Assist volunteers with headsets, answer questions, etc., and prepare the room for the next ceremony.

Volunteer Parking: 

  • Saturday volunteers can park in the Visitor Area 1 (Burge Parking Deck) or Wardlaw Center (TBD) 
  • Wardlaw parking deck passes will be sent by December 14.  
  • Volunteers should print out the parking pass and place it on their car’s dashboard while at their shift.

Volunteer Report times and location: 

  • Volunteers will report to the Student Success Center President’s Suite C and D.
  • Report times:  
    • Breakfast will start at 8:30 am 
    • Volunteer Room – 9:00 am 
    • Volunteers will report to designated locations by 10:00 am 

What to wear: 

  • Black business casual pants 
  • Georgia Tech sweatshirts will be provided
  • Comfortable shoes 
  • Lanyard will be provided and must always be visible – “Ask Me, I’m a Volunteer” 
  • Dress for weather conditions on the day – Commencement happens rain or shine 

Volunteer Roles: (Assignment will be issued by December 11). 

Graduate Guest Services  

  • Locations: Bobby Dodd Field along the path graduates will take to the stage) 
  • Line Management (Guide students from their seats, on and off stage, back to their seats) 
  • Field Movement Management (help manage graduate line traffic) 
  • Ensure graduates have correct regalia and GradPass   
  • Guest Services  

    • Locations: Concourses near Gates
    • Help point guests to the appropriate locations 
    • Provide exceptional services to guest by answering questions 

    Volunteer Room  

    • Locations: 8 AM – 10:30 AM, Student Success Center, President’s Suite 
    • Then shift to one of the Guest Services Sections 
    • Help all volunteers get ready for their assigned shift 
    • Time Management 
    • Assist with the distribution of radios 
    • Oversee catering preparation 

    Stage Crew Assistants 

    • Locations: Behind Stage Right and Stage Left 
    • Ensure all VIPs (Dean, Chairs/ADs, Speakers) have everything they need – know where to enter the stage, seating, RoS 
    • Point of Contact for AV Services
    • Ensure Run of Show is onstage and followed
